Advent: Peace Is Given

Writer: Allison WilcoxAllison Wilcox

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. ~ John 14:27

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. ~ Francis of Assisi

There are many kinds of peace in the world.

But there is only one peace of Christ.

There are many times lately when I have to remind myself that Christ's peace has been given to me. When I look at this world, for which peace seems to be such a rarity, it is easy to forget.

It is easy to forget also that since that peace has been given to me, it is not mine to hoard, but instead to share.

It's hard to worry and be afraid when you are busy sharing Christ's peace.

Easy to say, not always easy to do.

I admit, there are many days I still get worried. Many days when my heart is troubled. There seems to be so much that is troubling.

But when I do share Christ's peace - when I remember that peace is meant for all - that peace enfolds me and moves me and makes me, well...

Peaceful.

May I be an instument of your peace. Amen
