Epiphanies: Seeing God from Behind the Scenes

The next day (John the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One.” ~ John 1:29-34

John was pretty open to what was going to happen. He was ready for the Lamb of God. He was ready to be part of the great revealing.

John had a job to do to prepare.

It makes me think of all of the behind the scenes workers who prepare the way for ministry to happen.

Sextons who keep the church clean..

Property managers who keep the church in working order.

Committee members who support the council leaders.

Homebound ministers who do visit the ill and the shut ins.

Group leaders who provide a space for gathering.

Fellowship members who offer hospitality and connection.

Parish Administrators who take care of virtually everything else!

There are many ways in which God is revealed in our congregational lives, and it isn't just from pastors, deacons, and congregational leaders.

What are the ways God is calling you to be part of the revealing?

Holy One, open my eyes to see you in all manner of ways and through all manner of people. Amen
