Giving credit where it's due

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;

worship the Lord in holy splendor ~ Psalm 29:1-2

I'm tempted to begin this by pointing out how much leaders - especially our president - tend to lift up their own glory and strength: how much they take all the credit for anything and everything.

Yeah, it's tempting. But it ignores something deep and important.

All the times I lift up my own glory and strength: all the times I want credit for anything and everything.

OK, maybe not anything and everything. But I know my nose gets out of joint when I don't get credit for the things I did.

I'm not sure I spend enough time ascribing to God the praise and the glory God is due. Do I give God the credit when it is one of my spiritual gifts that allows me to accomplish something, and that those gifts are given to me freely through the work of the Holy Spirit?

Give to God what is due God - honor, glory, praise, worship, and love.

And sometimes, if you do need a little pat on the back and don't feel you are being recognized, know that there is One who is very proud of you.

Let praise for you always flow from my lips and heart! Amen
