In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? ~ Luke 1:39-43
It wouldn't be Advent without the joyful meeting of Mary and Elizabeth.
Two women carrying such important children.
This week of "Joy" has been centered on the idea of "how much is enough?"
How much do we give? How much do we share? Do we share our best? And how do we help others feel the joy of sharing?
If we want to know why we share and give - if we want to know how much - we have only to look at these two women. Two women that God used to share the very best God had to offer.
Through Elizabeth's son, God shared the powerful work of forgiveness and repentance.
Through Mary, God shared God's very self.
How much is enough?
Why do we give?
Because we have first been given the very best there is to give.
Generous and gracious God, open up the doors of joy and teach us to share it far and wide. Amen
