I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord! ~ Psalm 27:13-14

Hope is a verb, but it is also a noun - a state of being. And to live in hope, there are other verbs, as well as adjectives I often think of: verbs the Psalmist here thought of as well.
Phrases about hope that give hope.
Believe. Be strong. Take courage.
And the big one: Wait.
Wait.
Waiting might be the hardest part of hopefulness. How long do we have to wait?
How long before the door opens?
Hope isn't always easy. It can be hard to wait. Hard to have courage and be strong. Sometimes it can be hard even to believe. Maybe that's true now more than ever in many of our lives.
But we follow a God of Hope. A God of open doors. One who is there even when things seem hopeless.
So be strong. Take courage. Wait for the Lord - who is always, always there.
Generous and gracious God, open the doors of our hearts to make room for your Spirit of hope to bloom in our lives. Amen
