Shine on!

Writer's picture: Allison WilcoxAllison Wilcox

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a bushel basket; rather, one puts it on the lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but if it is unhealthy, your body is full of darkness. Therefore consider whether the light in you is not darkness. But if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be as full of light as when a lamp gives you light with its rays.” ~ Luke 11:33-36

Who is someone you can think of who has put their light so high up on a lamp stand that you can't help but see it?

I've seen it in public figures: Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Mother Teresa - to name a few.

I've also seen it in the lives of those who hand out food at food kitchens.

I've seen it in teachers who go all out for their students.

in activists who fight for the rights of the marginalized.

In healthcare workers who go to the far reaches of the earth to provide care for lives impacted by war and disaster.

And I've seen it in everyday church folk who visit homebound, who teach Sunday School, who provide food and fellowship, who attend Bible Studies, and more.

You are a lamp. Hold yourself high so that all the world can see how bright you are!

Let me shine your light into the world, Lord, for all to see! Amen
