Signs of Life

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,   and do not return there until they have watered the earth,  making it bring forth and sprout,   giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,  so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;   it shall not return to me empty,  but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,   and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.  For you shall go out in joy,   and be led back in peace;  the mountains and the hills before you   shall burst into song,   and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.  Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;   instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;  and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial,   for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off. ~ Isaiah 55:10-13

Where are signs of life these days? Where are you seeing them?

If you watch or read the news, it may seem like they are few and far between. You may even be feeling that in your own life. Maybe violence or despair has touched you in a personal way.

It is easy to let darkness overwhelm us, and takes a real intentionality to look for the signs of life in the midst of darkness.

But they are there, poking through the thorns and the briars.

So where do you see them?

How can you intentionally find them?

Where do you look?

Who do you go to when we want to see signs of life?

Who do you turn to?

Can you turn to the one who promises that it is life that will win out?

Living, loving God...help me to see your signs of life even in my desert places. Amen
