When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. ~ Genesis 1:1-3
At first there was darkness - a darkness born from chaos. There was nothing.
But for there to be something, you need light. And so the beautiful Genesis poem tells us about God's bringing light as the spark of life.
Through the light God's presence becomes known.
Through the light of God's presence the chaos was swept into a pattern of orderliness and creativity.
In the darkness, we fumble around. We may even feel alone.
But the light shines and we see we aren't alone.
The light shines and we see the life around us.
We see the gift of life given to us.
Question for thought: When is a time you could see or feel God's presence?
Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
