Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. ~ Luke 2:8-11
It was a light that brightened the night sky that finally announced the coming of the Promise.
The promise was being fulfilled in a dark cave, used as a home for animals.
But you couldn't tell it was dark. The sky lit up with the song of angels and the stars shone brightly as a sign of the babe in a manger.
Imagine all the lights of a city at night blinding out the darkest shadows.
Broadway brightened by all the theatre lights.
The Las Vegas strip overwhelming with neon.
Paris, the City of Lights, all decked out.
Imagine all that.
And it's nothing compared to the light in that small village called Bethlehem.
Question for thought: What is the most beautiful display of light you've ever seen? What made it so beautiful?
Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
