But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love (God)” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9

There are a lot of voices out there that claim to speak for God - who "know" exactly what God wants, what God likes, and what (and who) God hates.
They know who will "go to heaven," and who is damned to hell.
Recently, Bishop Mariann Budde was called "demonic" and a "Jezebel" for asking the president for mercy toward the vulnerable. She was seen as a God-hater.
And while Paul writes here of the great mystery that awaits us with God, the piece I zero in on is the part that that mystery awaits those who love the Holy One.
It does not say who they are or who they are not. It doesn't not say that those who ask for mercy don't love God.
And it also doesn't say that those who criticize them don't love God, as much as it might seem to me that is true.
The fact of the matter is that it is all a great mystery. It is not for me to decide who loves God. It is for me to embrace the mystery with faith. To know that there is only one thing to be certain of.
And that is God's love for us all.
I am so grateful for your love, dear God. Help me not to doubt the love you have for others - even those whose love I doubt myself. Amen
