You are my refuge

In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me. Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.

You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for your name’s sake lead me and guide me; take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

My times are in your hand;

deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

Let your face shine upon your servant;

save me in your steadfast love. ~ Psalm 31:1-5.15-16

How are the ways God is a refuge for you? What are the ways in which God saves you? Do you notice God's saving ways every day? Or has there been one time when you felt God's overwhelming presence giving you a sense of safety?

God offers refuge in many and varied ways.

For many, the refuge comes in the daily reading of scripture. For others, it is being part of God's community of faith, the church.

Some feel God's healing hand during illness. Others God's presence when they would otherwise be alone or even in danger.

Some find God's refuge in the people God seems to have put in our lives. And some find refuge in the places than bring us joy or safety.

You may have noticed the refuge or solace God gives you, or you may not have. Sometimes it is hard to feel safe when things around you seem to be falling apart.

But know that God is there, and when the words don't seem to come for you to ask for God's refuge, let the Psalmist speak for you.

Lord, I am loved. I am safe, I am yours. Amen
