One in a million

Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be reckoned as righteous by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek; there is no longer slave or free; there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise. ~ Galatians 3:23-29

Abraham was promised millions of things. Billions even. Maybe even gazillions!

His descendants would be a numerous as the stars in the sky. And in the whole Hebrew scripture we see God trying to show the Israelites how that comes about.

Through blessing others.

The millions become one when the blessing spreads. When more get included.

When everyone gets to be a child of Abraham.

No more arbitrary divisions.

When everyone gets brought into the fold.

Have you seen the stars in the sky? Or the grains of sand? From far away, they all look the same. But close in and you'll see all kinds of differences.

Each unique and yet each also part of one big, amazing thing.

Holy One, help me to be part of your One Big Thing and to see past all the divisions that this world makes up. Amen.
