One Spirit, One Mind

Only, live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that, whether I come and see you or am absent and hear about you, I will know that you are standing firm in one spirit, striving side by side with one mind for the faith of the gospel. ~ Philippians 1:27

Is it easy or difficult to be one one mind and one heart with a group of people?

As a national community, most Americans seem to have more they disagree on than what they do.

Yet, in other groupings or communities - mostly these days communities formed around political ideals, I see a different story. There are folks who are one heart and mind about a political leader, most especially these days you see it surrounding one particular political leader.

But as the Church (not our individual congregations, but the Big "C"Church), there seems less and less of the one heart, one mind notion. Less and less we seem to stand side by side with each other together on. Christian denominations are as varied as the people who make them up.

The Church of Jesus Christ will not stand or fall based on our ability or lack of ability to stand as one with each other. It IS one through Christ himself, regardless of our participation or lack of it.

But we are missing out when we ignore the connections to which we are called.

We are missing out when we separate rather than walk side by side with each other.

We are missing out on what it means to be part of the full Body of Christ - and part of the Kingdom of God - now.

We are missing out on the Good News - the Gospel of Christ - that is shared when we are together.

You are One and you have made us one with you. Remind us so that we remember to be one together. Amen
