The Coming of the Light: Light as Promise

The people who walked in darkness

have seen a great light;

those who lived in a land of deep darkness—

on them light has shined.

For the yoke of their burden

and the bar across their shoulders,

the rod of their oppressor,

you have broken as on the day of Midian. ~ Isaiah 9:2,4

What darkness in your life needs light?

There's a lot out there right now: the continuing effects of the pandemic, political unrest, war, racial tensions, poverty, climate crises.

The promise tells us that it is in those places where God's light shines.

On a practical level, what does that mean?

For me, I think it means that the light makes me aware. It shows me those dark places to move me toward action. To move me toward love.

To move me to care for my neighbor in need.

Question for thought: What is God's light pointing you toward right now?

Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
