The Coming of the Light: Light as Promise

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

which shines brighter and brighter until full day. ~ Proverbs 4:18

My grandmother lit up a room.

She had a smile that could stop someone dead in their tracks, and eyes that positively gleamed with joy.

Her goodness and kindness just shone through. It was evident to anyone that met her.

It's like that when you are with someone who is so loving, so kind, so generous, isn't it? Just being with them makes the moment better. It makes the world seem full of possibility.

There was a promise in my grandmother's smile. It was the promise that goodness was indeed the fabric of the universe: that love was indeed the answer to everything.

Question for thought: What is something that reminds you of the goodness of God's creation?

Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
