Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the Israelites. ~ Exodus 24:17
Have you ever been witness to the destruction of a fire?
A house that has burned to the ground?
A forest that has been decimated?
I've seen the remains of burnt out homes, and saw what a planned fire does to the vegetation on a savannah (so can only imagine what an unplanned one can do).
God wants to be like that in our lives.
To devour us completely.
To be the central event of our lives.
To get rid of the waste that gets in the way of us fully knowing God and fully knowing ourselves and our neighbors.
Question for thought: Have you ever seen a "cleansing" fire? A fire that was started for a purpose? Where was it? What was the result? Have you ever seen the results of a destructive fire?
Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
