Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. ~ Acts 2:3-4
One of the things that happened that first Pentecost was that those who couldn't understand each other suddenly could.
Those who were separated from each other were brought together.
God's light as purifier clears the way for God's people to be united.
It gets rid of the barriers that keep us from each other.
Burns away the divisions that have moved us away from each other.
God's light as fire burns away that which keep new life from flourishing: a life that is meant to be shared together.
God's light as purifier makes us one.
One with each other, and one with God.
Question for thought: Why is fire one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit?
Come, O Holy One, for we wait upon you. And light the darkness of our hearts and lives so that we may know your love fully. Amen
