Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”

A common Christian belief I've never quite been able to be on board with is that God has an individual plan for each of our lives.
I guess I just don't think God is like that. It makes God seem in such control that I have no agency, and that any mistake a make becomes a grave one. Bad things will happen when I stray from that plan.
That isn't to say that I don't think God has a plan at all. I do. There is a plan - a path - that God offers to each of us. A plan that God invites us to take part in.
God's plan is overarching. I believe it is universal rather than individual.
It is the plan - the path - of life.
God's plan is that life - life for creation, life for humanity - wins out. And God's plan of life includes love that permeates everything.
So rather than asking God to show me what God's individual plan is for me, I think I am meant to ask God how I can be of service to God's plan of life and love.
Dear God, show me how I can serve you in the path of life. Amen
